At Don’s Driving School, we strive to employ positive supporting individuals willing to dedicate their efforts to instructing teens and adults how to be safe, confident, and responsible drivers in an environment in which every student is respected, and driver safety is always the priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who or what makes a good driving instructor?

It does not require hard work. It does require strong dedication, patience, understanding, and ingenuity in helping students learn. If you have a background in teaching/instructing, awesome! Experience in safety education; law enforcement or instructors; technical field of studies; active or retired? Great!

Is this a full time job?

It is not full time. We ask for a combination of weekday, early evening, and weekend availability to accommodate the schedules of our students. We can work with your schedule.

Are schedules flexible?

Schedules are flexible. Generally, the bulk of our students are between the ages of 14-16 (but not all) who sometimes have busier schedules than us! Availability to work until 7:45 pm during the school year is preferred. During the summer months, we schedule students throughout the day.

How do lesson plans and driving routes work for instructors?

Lessons are set. We have lesson plans and fluid driving routes. Some students need extra time in traffic while others need extra time to parallel park. The driving routes remain fluid so maneuvers can be repeated until correct, while the lesson plans are constant to ensure success.

What are the expectations around lesson start and end times?

Arrive on time. Cars are shared between instructors so adherence to lesson times is important and appreciated by the students, parents, and your fellow instructors. Time to go from one lesson to another may require an instructor change.

Who is responsible for vehicle maintenance and cleanliness?

Each vehicle is maintained by the school and selected mechanics. If you notice a vehicle issue, please inform management as soon as possible. We ask that you follow the great outdoors model and leave no trace as you finish your lessons. Please respect the car and your fellow instructors by packing out what you bring in.
