Teen Driver Program
Gain the skills and confidence you need to hit the road safely. Our 6-hour course meets North Dakota’s licensing requirement for teens under 16 years old.
Requirements

Must have a valid ND permit.

Must be at least 14 years of age.

Must complete six (6) hours behind-the-wheel instruction with a qualified instructor.
Program Format
The six hour course for teens is set up in four (4) one and a half hour sessions for students who live in the urban city of Bismarck.
Students from rural Bismarck, Lincoln, Mandan, or neighboring communities will set up three (3) two hour sessions.
Adult Driver Program
Whether you’re new to driving or need a refresher, our tailored lessons help you drive with confidence at any age.
All lessons are private with professional instructors.
Requirements

Program Format
- Instruction is tailored to the student's specific needs and goals pertaining to driving.
- A two (2) hour pre-test course is available. The pre-test includes downtown driving and a review of all basic maneuvers.
- You may choose to drive one, two or more hours depending on your driving skill level.
- Micro-courses are available to "brush-up" your driving skills.

What car will be used for training?
Don's Driving School maintains a fleet of new, modern, and safe cars for use during our student lessons. These cars are regularly maintained and inspected by our trained instruction staff and our mechanics.
All cars used for lessons feature automatic transmissions.
We will pick up the student in one of our training cars which include a dual brake control, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and instructor rearview mirror.
Will I have lessons with other students?
All lessons at Don’s Driving School are one-on-one, with just the student and the instructor in the vehicle. This ensures personalized instruction, full attention on the student’s needs, and a comfortable learning environment.
Where do the lessons take place?
Don's Driving School instructors come to you!
We can pick up and drop off anywhere in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
If you are located outside of the immediate Bismarck-Mandan area, our instructors may arrange a meetup location for your lessons.
Lessons include driving in downtown Bismarck, on one way streets, on the interstate and highways, on gravel roads, and navigating roundabouts.
When do lessons take place?
Lessons are given year round, seven days a week. We have morning, afternoon, and early evening availability.
Does Don's Driving School Teach Defensive Driving?
Yes.
Every lesson at Don’s Driving School emphasizes defensive driving. Students learn how to anticipate hazards, adjust to traffic and weather, and make safe, proactive choices on the road. These skills build confidence and prepare drivers for both their road test and real-world driving.
Can I rent a car for my licensing road test?
Yes. Don’s Driving School offers rental of their cars for students to use during their road test, based on availability and upon completion of instruction. This option helps ensure you’re driving a vehicle you’re already comfortable with on test day.
